Janet Miller has long been a writer, writing instruction manuals for software she authored, picture books, adventure novels, and a graphic novel. An avid fan of puzzles—word puzzles, number puzzles, jigsaw puzzles—writing a novel was the most challenging of all as she put together the story, stakes, character arcs, scenes, dynamic first sentences, conflict, suspense, plot twists… the list goes on and on. To get help with this, she joined Sierra Writers and the Society for Childrens Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).

Wanting to understand how things work, like people and machines, Janet studied biochemistry and engineering. To help spread this knowledge, she obtained K-12 teaching credentials.

What a challenge, teaching math and science to students of all grades, especially as a substitute teacher! Most students wanted nothing to do with math, so she decided to write a middle grade adventure novel that included a treasure hunt involving … math!

Next, she wrote a middle grade STEAM graphic novel, The Atoms That Built the Universe: As Told by One That Was There, which is complete and seeking representation.

Janet lives with her husband in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of California, where they raised two sons and several cats.
